UCP Capabilities
What can UCP-enabled stores do? Capabilities are protocol-level declarations of what a merchant supports — from checkout and fulfillment to order tracking and discounts.
Each capability in the Universal Commerce Protocol has a version, specification URL, and schema that defines its contract. Capabilities can extend one another — for example, discount extends checkout — and each is governed by a namespace authority you can browse on the vendor & extension map. Use the UCP Validator to check your manifest declares capabilities correctly, the Catalog Validator to audit what your catalog.search endpoints return, or compare UCP tools to see how different platforms implement them.
Capabilities are exposed to agents via MCP tools, delivered over transports, and work alongside payment handlers to enable end-to-end commerce.

Catalog Search
stableProduct catalog search capability. Enables agents to search for products using natural language queries and structured filters.
Catalog Lookup
stableProduct and variant lookup by identifier. Supports batch retrieval and single-product detail with full variant data.
Checkout
stableInitiate and complete a purchase. The core transactional capability of UCP — every verified store supports this.
Cart
stableShopping cart with estimated pricing before checkout. Lightweight pre-purchase exploration — add, remove, and update items before committing to checkout.
Fulfillment

Discount

Permalink
stableStable, shareable URLs for shopping resources so an agent-built cart survives a handoff to a human browser.

AP2 Mandate

Location Search

stableRetrieve a specific location by identifier, with deterministic operating hours, amenities, and item availability.
Community
Capabilities declared by individual vendors outside the core dev.ucp namespace. These are auto-discovered from live manifests and governed by each vendor's own domain — see who owns what on the vendor & extension map.

Namespaces observed in live manifests inside the reserved dev.ucp space that the published specification does not define — invented namespaces, misspellings of real capabilities, and names from proposals that were never merged. Namespace Governance reserves dev.ucp.* for capabilities sanctioned by the UCP governing body; vendors MUST use their own reverse-domain namespace. Listed because agents will encounter them, not because they are part of the protocol.
