When the Total Isn't Final: UCP Proposals Add a Buyer-Approved Maximum and Split Authorization From Capture
A checkout total that can still move after the buyer says yes — a weighed grocery order, a hotel stay, a split shipment — has no representation in UCP today. Three Stripe-authored proposals filed this week would add one: a buyer-approved ceiling at Checkout, and separate authorization and capture on the Order. None is merged yet.

Three additions to the Tool Inspector and Agent runs. A held-state ledger that mirrors whatever a merchant issued an id for — cart, checkout, hold or reservation — with the merchant's own totals and expiry. We built a UCP flower shop that fails in six specific ways and ran 150 sessions across Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok, recording what the store received and what the agent told the customer. No model invented an order. Two followed instructions hidden in a product description in every session. One used a leaked override token five times out of six.
